BeerShip Process: How does Beer Ship sail? What's the basic process?
-
Answer: How does the Beer Ship get me beer?
- First, our friendly pirates need to know you want the treasure. Drop a message in a bottle if it's not listed yet. Placing a complete order lets us know you are serious.
- Second, we send our pirates to the high seas to plunder the breweries and secure the booty. The seas are choppy, and uncertain, so we can't guarantee the haul our pirates will be able to bring back. We email you weekly with our progress. Alterations to your order can be emailed back at any time to speed it along.
-
Third, when our pirates bring back the booty, we divide it up and send out a dingy full of what we could get for you.

Rare Beer Products: Do you have the listed rare beer products in stock? Will they ship immediately?
-
Answer: Rare beer products are hard to come by. That's why they're rare! When we list a rare beer on BeerShip, it is because we have access to some stock. If it says "Pre-Order" that means it is not presently in stock, but we do expect to get some. When the page lists a quantity, that means it is presently in stock. We fill rare beer orders on a first-come, first-served basis based on the incoming timestamp, so if you want a rare beer, place an order to get in line as soon as possible.

Availability - Pre-Orders: How are the pre-orders handled? Do I need to add them and pay for them now and will they all be shipped together upon release or shipped as they come out?
-
Answer: When you check out we're just authing your CC, not charging. You won't be charged until the actual product ships. If it makes sense we'll hold your box to ship until the whole order is fillable, if not we'll contact you to work out a better arrangement.

Availability - Pre-Orders: What happens if BeerShip.com takes orders for more product than it receives?
-
Answer: BeerShip.com does get a lot of what we ask for, but in case there are more orders than we can fill, will fill pre-orders based on their time stamp. First in, first out.

Availability - Not For Sale: Why is the item on the site if it's not for sale?
-
Answer: This can be for different reasons. One reason is the item *is* available in a different configuration which will be listed under Related Products. The related product may be a gift set that contains the item, or it may be a different vintage than the product you're viewing. We don't remove items from the database as people with orders in the system may want to see the details of their items, and comments and reviews need to be maintained.

Shipping/Packaging: Why is there a packaging fee for my order?
-
Answer: At BeerShip we really care about the beer. We've had special packaging manufactured to ensure the beer arrives safely. Different sizes of beer require different packaging, and shipping standards require that we use approved shippers. Rather than pay for the packaging costs by inflating our prices or inflating our shipping charges, we would rather be straight-forward with a fair price for product and a price that allows us to break even on packaging.

Shipping/Packaging: Why is shipping so expensive?
-
Answer: Beer is heavy. The law requires that we obtain an adult signature from anyone receiving a package containing alcohol. FedEx charges an upcharge for this service. These two forces combine to make shipping costs for beer more than shipping costs for books. We do everything we can to keep your shipping costs as low as possible. As our volume increases our discount with FedEx will grow and we can pass that on to you. The website is doing its best with programming to estimate accurate shipping charges, but when your order is packaged and weighed, a real human being is reviewing the shipping charge. If we can adjust the shipping charge down we will.

Shipping/Packaging: How does BeerShip decide which packaging to use for my order?
- Answer: The BeerShip system attempts to place your beer in the right sized box. With so many sizes of beer bottles available, sometimes it is difficult for the programming to understand the best way to do it. At this time, if you have one bottle on your order that doesn't fit in the boxes that have maximum sizes, the system will automatically put your entire order in the lower capacity box. When a Beer Pirate reviews your order, if it makes sense to change the packaging to a more efficient method, we will manually do so and you will be charged the correct amount. If you're concerned that the system isn't accurate counting, please leave a comment for the Beer Pirate with your order. Another way to get a better idea of costs is to place separate orders for similarly sized bottles in whole box quantities. We will combine the orders on the back end to make the shipping and packaging as efficient as possible.
